Before work on the sustainability report begins, we carry out a Double Materiality Assessment (DMA). This is an analysis used to identify which sustainability issues are material to Fjord1. The analysis is based on two main perspectives:

1. How Fjord1 impacts the outside world (people and the environment)

This concerns how our operations impact people and the environment, both positively and negatively. Examples include emissions from operations, safety for employees and passengers, or contributions to local communities.

2. How the outside world affects us

This concerns how sustainability can affect Fjord1 financially, and is referred to as risks or opportunities. For example, rising electricity prices can affect the costs of operating electric ferries, and this then constitutes a financial risk for Fjord1.

Once we have defined what constitutes impacts, risks and opportunities, we assign each topic a ‘score’ based on the impact. What is deemed material is what we report on in the sustainability report. The scoring is determined using a framework that assesses consequence and likelihood. Read more about the framework we use for scoring on page 24.

I = impact
R = risk
O = opportunity

Fjord1 is committed to providing a safe, health-promoting, and inclusive working environment. The company has a structured HSE (Health, Safety and Environment) system, zero tolerance for discrimination and harassment, and clear guidelines for fair working conditions.

In 2025, Fjord1 carried out targeted HSE campaigns, improved whistleblowing channels, and invested in training and employee well-being initiatives.

The company has also established a dedicated maritime HR unit to strengthen recruitment and follow-up, and both sick leave and employee turnover have shown positive trends compared to previous years.

Fjord1 plays a key role in connecting coastal and island communities, supporting local value creation, and providing critical infrastructure for transport, healthcare, and emergency services.

The company employs many people locally, prioritizes local suppliers, and sponsors a range of activities, sports clubs, and cultural events.

In 2025, Fjord1 supported, among others, Askøy Handball Club, the Øyhopp Festival, and local swimming and sailing associations, contributing to inclusive and accessible activities for children and young people.

Fjord1 is a leading player in the green transition of transport in Norway. More than half of its ferries are now electrified, and the company continues to invest in hybrid-electric vessels.

In 2025, the use of electric energy and biofuels increased, while diesel consumption decreased. We optimizes routes, uses auto-crossing and load control systems, and works closely with suppliers to ensure high uptime for electric ferries and charging solutions.

These measures have resulted in measurable reductions in both energy consumption and emissions.
