Everything you need to know before your Geiranger–Hellesylt trip

Do I need to book a ticket in advance?

Yes, it is strongly recommended during the high season (May–September). Drop-in is possible, but a place is not guaranteed. 

How much is the ticket, and how do you pay?

When does the ferry run between Geiranger and Hellesylt?

How early should we arrive before departure?

The latest check-in time is 30 minutes before departure for vehicles and 15 minutes for passengers. Customers who do not arrive in time are considered a “no show” and will not receive a refund. Read more about the cancellation terms here: Cancellation terms - Fjord1

Is a seat/space guaranteed with a pre-booked ticket?

 Yes, when you book in advance you have secured a place on the relevant departure (subject to terms). 

Can we travel as a foot passenger or bring a car, bus or campervan?

Yes, both foot passengers and all types of vehicles are welcome on board. Capacity is limited, especially for larger vehicles, so advance booking is recommended. Also, this is the perfect fjord tour for motorhome owners - Fjord1

How long does the crossing take?

The trip takes approximately 65 minutes and goes through the UNESCO-protected Geirangerfjord. 

Is there food service or facilities on board?

Yes, there is a kiosk/refreshments and toilets on board.

What happens if the weather is bad—does the ferry still run?

Normally, the ferry operates as scheduled, but extreme weather conditions may cause delays or cancellations. Customers who have booked in advance will be notified by email in case of such delays or cancellations. The money will also be automatically refunded.

Can you get a refund or change a ticket?

Changes/refunds must be made no later than 48 hours before departure. You can do this yourself via the booking confirmation and link you received by email. The ticket will be automatically refunded if cancelled within the deadline. The payout will be made within a few days.
